The Shah Rukh Khan & Salman Khan Biographies
Two star biographies published without the star’s involvement — no author interviews, no signings, no pre-order runway. Both reached bestseller charts on fandom mobilisation alone, activating existing Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan fan clubs across Instagram and X to drive discovery. The Shah Rukh Khan title reached 271% sell-through.

The challenge
Two star-subject books, neither star involved in writing or promoting them. That ruled out the usual playbook — interviews, signings, tours. Both books also skipped a pre-order runway entirely and went straight to release.
The strategy
With no author to build around, we built around the fans instead. Existing Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan fan clubs across Instagram and X got activated to drive discovery from the ground up. Retail displays put the books front-of-store. Media coverage ran off strategic excerpts rather than interviews. Nostalgia did the emotional work an author interview normally would.
The result
Both titles hit bestseller charts and held Amazon category-bestseller status for weeks — a campaign built almost entirely on fandom that was already there. The Shah Rukh Khan title reached 271% sell-through.
This is the campaign I point to when someone asks what fandom activation actually buys you. It’s also the argument I make at more length inFandom is a publishing strategy, not a marketing channel.
